The principles of Ayurveda said that Migraine is a tridoshic disorder, Out of the three doshas; Vata and Pitta are more causative factors for this disorder. The Vata controls the nervous system imbalance of the vata causes the disturbance of the equilibrium of the nervous system of the brain that causes pain. The improper diet, metabolism, faulty life style, poor elimination, mental and physical stress, irregular routein , excessive awaking during night aggravates the vata dosha.

The improper diet and lifestyle causes a Vitiated Pitta dosha causes dilation of the blood vessels resulting in severe and throbbing pain.  Pitta dosha impairs digestion and the “ama” produced by this gets stored in the Manovah Strotas (Mind Channels) and causes the migraine pain.

Causes of Shleshma-pitta /Migraine According to Ayurveda

    • Irregular eating habits such as, wrong food combination, quantity and timings
    • Long gap or intermittent eating pattern, crash dieting
    • Stale, over salty, spicy, sour food
    • Over use of tea coffee, aerated drinks and re-processed food
    • Arrest of basic urges like sleep, hunger, urine, stool etc.
    • Irregular life style, anxiety, worry and lack of exercises
    • Use of certain drugs and diseases affecting the hepato-billiary system.
    •  Improper diet and lifestyle causes aggravation of Pitta (Ayurvedic humor representing Fire) in the body. In an aggravated state, Pitta impairs digestion, leading to production of digestive impurities (known as ama). This ama gets stored in the manovahi strotas (mind channels), thereby becoming the cause for pains in migraine.
